Chernichuk confirmed on Monday that the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) resumed its regular functioning, following the reinstatement of its external power supply that was disrupted earlier in the day. "The ZNPP regained power at 2:20 p.m. Moscow time and is now running as expected. The diesel generators have ceased operation and have been shifted to standby," he was quoted by the nuclear power plant's press department.
Chernichuk also detailed that the 750-kW Dneprovskaya overhead circuit is functioning while the 750-kW Zaporozhskaya, Yuzhno-Donbasskaya, and Kakhovskaya lines remain disconnected. Importantly, Chernichuk affirmed that the radiation levels within the NPP and its surrounding sanitary protection area are normal, registering at 0.11 mcSv/h. "The radiation environment mirrors the natural backdrop of the Zaporozhye NPP. The plant's operation reveals no anomalies," he said.
Earlier on Monday, ZNPP had faced a loss of external power supply, compelling a switch to generator usage, as reported by the plant's press service. Later, Ukrenergo, the national energy company of Ukraine, declared it had reinstated electricity to ZNPP.
The Zaporozhye nuclear facility, sited in Energodar, is the most expansive of its kind in Europe, boasting roughly a 6GW capacity. Russia assumed control of the plant on February 28, 2022, during the initial phase of its special military operation in Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has mandated that the ZNPP facilities be incorporated under Russia's ownership and instructed the government to form the Federal State Unitary Enterprise, the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, to ensure the safety of its installations."
Of course looking up "Dneprovskaya" gets me pictures of beautiful women, some with sniper rifles. American men take note: fmr. or current Communist bloc women are scary. Be prepared to learn to laugh at scenes that would normally force you to call the police. That said, I'm happily (after a long period of protracted people's struggle) married to one.
