Ukraine has regained control over the village of Urozhaine in the Donetsk region, marking another victory in its ongoing counteroffensive against Russian forces.
Andrii Kovalov, spokesperson for the Ukrainian military's general staff, announced on national television that the Ukrainian defense forces have successfully secured Urozhaine and are now fortifying their position. The village, positioned roughly 60 miles from the Russian-occupied Donetsk city, is strategically situated near Staromaiorske, another village recently liberated by Ukrainian troops.
Deputy defense minister Hanna Maliar reiterated the success on Telegram, asserting the continuation of Ukraine's offensive.
CNN has authenticated footage provided by Kyiv's forces, capturing Ukrainian soldiers hoisting their flag in Urozhaine near a World War II memorial for Soviet soldiers. The retake was accomplished with the efforts of the 35th and 38th Separate Marine Brigades, among other defense units.
Russian troops had long been in a vulnerable position in Urozhaine. Following the fall of nearby Staromaiorske to Ukrainian forces two weeks prior, many had anticipated this latest capture. The proximity of the two villages, separated only by a river, allowed Ukrainian troops a vantage point to challenge Russian positions effectively in Urozhaine.
The reclaiming of Urozhaine is a testament to Ukraine's advancing, albeit gradually, counteroffensive. Elsewhere, in the eastern front, heavy combat persists, especially south of Bakhmut. Andrii Kovalov has pointed out the strong resistance displayed by Russia, particularly in the war-torn city of Marinka and the nearby town of Krasnohorivka.
Ukraine's counteroffensive endeavors to reclaim territories in the south and east currently occupied by Russian forces have met significant challenges. Faced with Russia's extensive defensive fortifications, inclusive of mines and trench networks, Ukrainian troops have been grappling with considerable losses in their mission to pierce these defenses.
Nevertheless, the recapture of Urozhaine indicates a progression in Ukraine's strategy to advance southwards to the Sea of Azov. Dominating this region would sever Russia's terrestrial linkage between Crimea and eastern Donetsk.
In response to criticism regarding the pace of Ukraine's advances, Kyiv emphasized its tactical objective is to systematically dismantle Russia's military might and disrupt its logistical chain. Ukrainian presidential adviser Mykhailo Podolyak expressed this sentiment, stressing the importance of neutralizing Russia's military reserves and logistics rather than mere territorial gains.
So What does this mean: The recapture of Urozhaine signifies a critical juncture in Ukraine's counteroffensive against Russia. While the advance is slow-paced, it emphasizes Kyiv's strategic approach to disrupt Russia's military capabilities and logistics rather than just territorial gains. The reclaiming of such territories serves as a beacon of hope and resilience for Ukraine in its fight against a formidable adversary.
I joined to see uncut footage of combat I am Army my time during NAM was with CID and worked with CIA. Saw one great video yes there was a head with out body but what was shown after was the gear the ORCO'S were wearing. That tells a greater story. I am Ukraine. Grand parents came over in 1914. The dead tell more than what we are being told. Those who say We have to make a deal well that clip should tell them all please show more combat footage and point out how the orcs are not going to stop Ukraine . You made a comment in a short about Mossad being a good intelligence service. I will attempt to post a picture of Meir Dagan's grandfather that he had posted over his desk at Mossad. The picture was taken a few minutes before his death.
Keep on doing what you're doing. One of the best sites around. Thank you.
