Two Russian officers have reportedly been killed, and 15 others hospitalized following a mass poisoning suspected to have been orchestrated by Ukrainian partisans in the occupied city of Mariupol. Petro Andriushchenko, an adviser to the mayor of Mariupol, suggested that the operation targeted Russian forces as they commemorated Navy Day on July 30th.
In a message shared on the social media platform Telegram, Andriushchenko stated: “During the celebration… at one of the military facilities, officers were poisoned en masse. Seventeen Russian servicemen were admitted to the hospital in serious condition, two officers died."
Andriushchenko claimed that the Russian occupation authorities suspect that food served at the event was laced with cyanide and pesticides. Reflecting on this incident, he noted: "Our people say with a smile, 'rats always need poison.' The day starts with good news. Sabotage is such a nice word, don't you agree?"
The adviser attributed the operation to Group “Y” of the Mariupol Resistance.
Ukrainian partisans have reportedly increased their activities in recent weeks. The underground resistance has allegedly been supplying the Armed Forces of Ukraine with critical information. In one such recent incident, this intelligence reportedly led to a successful HIMARS attack against Russian troops, resulting in substantial casualties as they assembled on a beach.
I would have preferred they were just shot or blown up outright for a quick death. I know they probably deserved it, but when I even see Russian soldiers hit and crawling away on the battlefield, it makes me feel bad to see them suffering and abandoned to a slow death. There's no way of knowing if they were just some poor kids who...well, you get the idea. I don't fault Ukrainians for anything they do to get rid of the invaders. It can't happen too soon.
A tiny number of casualties, but a ginormous blow to Russian morale. Hooray for “Group Y”!!!
Smoke 'em if ya got 'em!
Couldn't happen to a nicer group of Russians!
