Russia Attempts to Seize Bakhmut for Victory Day as Wagner Mercenaries Face Heavy Losses.

A high-ranking Ukrainian official disclosed on Friday that Russia is reallocating Wagner mercenary forces from different front lines to battle in Bakhmut, eastern Ukraine. Moscow aims to seize the city in time for the Victory Day celebrations on May 9th. Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar shared her observations following Wagner Group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin's announcement that his mercenary troops would withdraw from Bakhmut on May 10th due to considerable losses and insufficient ammunition.

Victory Day, an important date on the Russian calendar, commemorates the Soviet triumph over Nazi Germany in World War II. Maliar noted that Russian forces are consolidating their Wagner mercenaries in Bakhmut and added that Ukrainian troops are not only defending the city but also conducting assaults. A counter-offensive to repel Russian forces in eastern and southern Ukraine is anticipated in the coming weeks.

Maliar stated, "The Russians are inclined towards symbolism and their key historic myth is May 9, and they really have set the objective of taking control of Bakhmut by this date." Prigozhin's Wagner forces have played a crucial role in Russia's prolonged attack on Bakhmut, located in the industrial Donbas region. Although the city's military strategic value is debatable, Bakhmut, with a pre-war population of 70,000, has become a significant symbol in Russia's all-out invasion. Casualties in the city have been substantial.

Each year on May 9, Russia commemorates Victory Day with a grand military parade in Red Square, led by President Vladimir Putin.

Mr. P. has done more to reduce the recidivistic criminal rate in Russia than any other person in Russian history.

"how can a country so rich and so big still find itself below the GDP of a country as poor as Italy?"

I think a big part of the issue is the fact that Russia has a lot of natural resources. Thus their elite doesn't need to rely that much on taxes and keeping the people happy in order to have money compared to nations that don't have many natural resources.

I think "CGP Grey -The Rules for Rulers" explains this difference and the issues quite well. The explanation what having a lot of natural resources cause starts @12:36, but to understand the entire dynamic of power structures I recommend watching the entire video. And corrutpion is just one part…

As MLK said, I have a dream. For May 9th, I hope to see a spectacular beginning of the counteroffensive, drones landing in Red Square, and no Russian victory in Bakhmut or one that is cut short as Ukraine sends Russians into a panic. Slava Ukraini! Heroyam Slava!
