Prominent Kremlin critic Vladimir Kara-Murza was sentenced to 25 years in prison by a Moscow court on Monday, after being found guilty of treason and other offenses, all of which he denied. Kara-Murza's sentence is the harshest penalty for a critic of Russia's war in Ukraine, drawing criticism from Western countries. His legal team plans to appeal the case.
Kara-Murza was accused by prosecutors of spreading "knowingly false information" about the Russian military's actions in Ukraine. Last year, the Kremlin passed a law cracking down on speech critical of the war. Kara-Murza maintains that he is in jail for his political views and opposition to Putin's dictatorship, stating that he is proud of his actions.
The US State Department condemned the sentencing and called for Kara-Murza's release, as well as the release of over 400 political prisoners in Russia. The European Union also expressed dismay at the "outrageously harsh court decision," stating that it demonstrates the political misuse of the judiciary to pressure activists and human rights defenders who oppose Russia's war against Ukraine.
All of your posts are what I can read in almost any newspaper. I am going to cancel unless you report what you claim you will report.
Paul, my compatriots and I are super happy with your new website. Keep up your great work. Your combat experience is way more helpful than all of the Generals on CNN! 95% of the reportage from mainstream media is pathetic--ignorant, inaccurate, lazy and misinformed.
These mal-mis-informed talking heads think that all military ships are "battleships" and that APVs are tanks because there's a big gun on top--and nobody the fuck knows what the term "casualty" means or that a mishap on a submarine is also called a casualty, or what the fuck depleted Uranium is and why it's the junk part separated from the good part (.7%),. Or, what the hell is the difference between a canon, artillery, field howitzers…
Will he serve with Jan 6 political prisoners. Like it doesn’t happen here.
This is important news, thanks for sharing.
